Moving On

It’s time for me to move on . . .

I couldn’t stand blog.com anymore and while I am very sad to be leaving my lovely onceuponatime blog, I need more integration, features and compatability. WordPress seemed the way forward (for someone who wants it to be super easy as well).

So here’s what I’ve done - I’ve moved across all the relevant posts from 2009 and the last one from 2008, for those playing catchup, and then I’ve added a couple of new posts about the emotional prep for adventuring with VSO.

It’s time to remove this blog from your links, RSS feeds and bookmarks and add:

Time ticks on . . .

There’s an interlude going on here while I wait for some important stuff to happen (it’s an active type of waiting). I believe this blog might change a little over the coming year but meanwhile expect some possible news in mid to late February. I might blog again before then but otherwise head over to Twitter to follow my microblogging if you’re that interested.

The 4th Post

This is the 4th post for the night and more of an explanation of the other three than anything proper.

For some reason I can’t sleep, at all, tonight and it’s now 5:15am and in an hour and a bit I need to get out of bed and head to work. Fun! Instead of clearing up my desk or working out where to move my furniture to next weekend (see the ‘Trying to remember how to say no’ post - it’s not about sex). I am posting random things on my blog and listening to Last.FM. Why not?

Oooh . . . so I’ve discovered the wonders of H&M, not the NZ one, but the kinda that sells good clothes for cheap and has nice ones at the Knightsbridge branch. It makes me so happy, in a silly kind of way.

Other things that make me happy - let me introduce you to The Boy Least Likely To:

Blogging from Chrome

I’m blogging from Chrome. Chrome the new Google browser. It’s great to try something new and I’m enjoying how intuitive it is so far!

Incognito is one the excellent additions to Chrome, and similar to functions unveiled in IE 8. Here’s a screenshot of the incognito screen for Chrome the first time you open it (got to love the little man in the coat and hat at the top).

Also really like that when you type a search term into the “omnibox” it does the search right there and then thereby skipping the previous ‘go-to-the-search-page-with-its-answers’ step (can’t you tell I’m so up with the all the jargon on this :P). But seriously, a very useful tool. I just typed Amnesty International in, because I’m useless at remembering that their address is www.amnesty.org, and the omnibox offered me a selection of 5 or 6 top possibilities and of course got it in one so I went straight there. Brilliant Google!

No problems so far, has coped with everything I’ve thrown at it (multiple windows in icognito and not, as well as multiple tabs). Quite impressed really :o)

The home screen, made up of 9 of your most popularly visited pages, is absolutely brilliant and well thought out. I also like having a lot more actual page on my screen, the minimising of buttons and boxes within the browser is a Godsend. Have found a few bugs with some websites and there’s also no way of getting an RSS feed in the browser but so far so good. Chrome help group is up and running with loads of comments.

Find me on the internet

These will be added to my sidebar eventually but for now here are some of the ‘web 2.0′ sites I use for various things.

Facebook - Primary social networking site
MySpace - For those people who refuse to use Facebook (checked on a monthly-ish basis)
Bebo - I refuse to use this at all regularly as it drives me bananas but I have the page for those Kiwis who still haven’t moved onto Facebook yet.
Orkut - More of that social networking. It’s Luiz’s, Livia’s and Dany’s fault this time (you know I love you guys!)

Webshots - All my photos are here.

TakingItGlobal - youth activism networking organisation/site (and a special one for me - I’ve been involved with them for a while now)

LinkedIn - Professional networking - imagine your CV online.

Twitter - Micro-blogging service

Last FM - UK based internet radio and music community site. Necessary for expanding my music collection.

Goodreads - A book version of last.fm, brilliant for finding more books to add to my shelves when my non-specific shopping becomes dangerous.

And of course this baby - my blog - which I update as often as I can (read - less often than I want to).

I realise this makes me somewhat of an internet geek :o)

Blog Idol

I am dissertationing - bear with me until Thursday when it is handed in. Even better, bear with me until next week when I will have fully recovered from this traumatising experience.

Meanwhile I have something to share. Andy Feltoe, who was my cell group leader at the Street in first year, is one of the contenders for Stuff’s Blog Idol. One contestant is voted off everyday, and the vote-booth thing appears to be properly sorted so that you can only vote once a day not that that’s something to worry about). Anyway this is me encouraging you to all vote. Andy’s currently living in London and so that makes it extra fun :o) You can read his Stuff blog here and his normal blog (which is “suspended” while he does this Blog Idol thing) here.

In which Fi procrastinates . . .

Apologies if you received my insanely massively long email about life in London, I know it was too long. I shall try harder to communicate more often and with fewer words.

I have been procrastinating all day, tomorrow I must work hard. British Summer Time also ends tonight, so NZ will be 13 hours ahead of us. What fun! I get an extra hour of sleep :o)

Bedtime for me

I had meant to write something resembling a sane blog post this evening however time has disappeared and since I can not remember the last time I went to bed before 11, I am going to be sad this evening and head to bed now. For the record, I got delayed by job/internship/voluntary work hunting and then Dave came online and we had a grand conversation using our webcamage . . . I am a new big fan of webcams because they allow me to see Dave and family and in return they can see me. YAY!

Bed time for me now but I promise emails and proper updates tomorrow and meanwhile here is me signing off for the night.

Holiday

I’m taking my first proper annual holiday from tomorrow and heading up North with Dave to see my grandparents, who live at Lang’s Beach in Northland (the real one, not the Wellington one). As the office is moving again when I get back, I don’t expect to blog until Monday next so hope you have all have a fabulous week!

Ciao!

What a pretty little flash graph

This graph was made by blog.com to show me how many people have come to visit my blog each day. I’m impressed that people continue to visit even when it isn’t updated very regularly. But I like the graph, it jumps around when I first see it but I can’t show that caus I can’t catch it in time.
