Holy Week

I like songs and I find them a fantastic way to think about the importance of Holy Week, so everyday will have a different song’s lyrics and hopefully a link to a snippet of the song (but not for today’s unfortunately). I’m not paying attention to the days so all songs relate to the 48 hours leading up to Jesus death. I have all these songs on cd should you feel the urge to borrow one just let me know.

“Holy Week is the last week of Lent, the week immediately preceding Easter Sunday.  It is observed in many Christian churches as a time to commemorate and enact the suffering (Passion) and death of Jesus through various observances and services of worship.” - The Voice

Gethsemane - Ian White

On reaching the place he said to them,

“Pray you will not fall to temptation”

And then he withdrew a short distance away,

And kneeling down, he started to pray;

“Father if you’re willing, take this cup from me

and yet not my will be done, but the will of Thee.”

Suddenly, an angel from heaven

Appeared to Him and strengthened Him,

And being in anguish He prayed all the more.

And His sweat was like blood, running down to the ground.

“Father if you’re willing, take this cup from me

and yet not my will be done, but the will of Thee.”

Rising from prayer, going back to the disciples,

He found them asleep, exhausted and tired.

Saying “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray

That you will not fall to temptation.”

“Father if you’re willing, take this cup from me

and yet not my will be done, but the will of Thee.”
