On a whole other note

300 hay bales have caught fire on State Highway 1 south of Temuka. The road is closed but I don’t know whether that means that the hay bales were in the middle of the road or not.

Have you ever tried to translate hay bales into Portuguese, Italian and German? A very novel experience . . . that takes me back . . .

Portuguese: hay bales -> balas do feno -> bullets of the hay

Italian: hay bales -> balle del fieno -> bales of the hay

German: hay bales -> heuballen -> hay bundle

i’ve heard of all types of bullets - real ones, exploding ones, plastic ones, ice ones, meat ones, ones with tracking devices in them…but never a hay one…
